LED UFO Concept

The LED UFO is a simple concept - it uses highly efficient 1 watt LEDs, uses only the red and blue spectrums required for photosynthesis, and uses wide angle directional bulbs. The 1 watt LED is one of the most efficient light sources in the world (lumens per watt). By using only the spectrum required, no light is wasted.

The spectrum of light that it emits is tailored to the absorption spectrum of chlorophyll, caroten, phycoerythrin and phycocyanin, so no light is wasted in the spectrum that plants do not use, such as green light. Plus, the directional LEDs ensure 100% of the light points downward without the use of reflective materials to direct the light.

The LED UFO ballast is not exactly a ballast. They are slightly more complex than a ballast - this has 5 output cords, ballasts generally only have 2. This ballast contains (2) LED drivers, (1) Fan Driver for the fans, and a temperature control system that will shut the LED off if it makes it to a critical temperature.. We initially had these components self contained in the array- but are achieving longer bulb life and it is easier for us to warranty having it come with a "ballast" - it pretty much eliminates all the circuitry from the LED array itself and put the complex parts into the ballast. The ballast will be the component that fails if anything does, and it will be much easier to warranty this one part by replacing it rather than repairing a complex LED array.
